The Department of Telecommunications has introduced the Sanchar Saathi Portal, an innovative initiative aimed at empowering mobile subscribers and enhancing their security while increasing awareness of government initiatives. This platform enables citizens to effectively manage and monitor the mobile connections registered under their name, while also providing valuable features such as disconnecting unnecessary connections, tracking lost phones, and verifying the authenticity of devices during new or used purchases. To achieve these goals, the portal incorporates two significant modules known as Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) and Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP).
Citizen Centric Services
The CEIR module serves as a valuable tool for locating lost or stolen mobile devices. By utilizing this module, individuals can report their lost or stolen devices, which subsequently triggers the blocking of these devices across all telecom operators' networks. This ensures that the lost or stolen devices become inoperable within India. If someone attempts to use a blocked mobile phone, its traceability is immediately generated. Once the mobile phone is recovered, it can be unblocked through the portal, allowing citizens to resume its normal usage.
The TAFCOP module offers mobile subscribers the ability to monitor the number of mobile connections registered under their name. This feature allows individuals to identify any connections that are unnecessary or unauthorized. By reporting such connections, subscribers can take appropriate action to rectify the situation and safeguard their mobile usage.
Keep Yourself Aware
Furthermore, the Sanchar Saathi Portal includes the "Keep Yourself Aware" facility, which serves as an invaluable resource for users. This feature provides the latest updates and informative materials pertaining to various aspects of end-user security, as well as telecom and information security. By accessing this facility, subscribers can stay informed and educated about potential risks and security measures related to their mobile usage.
The Sanchar Saathi portal stands as a testament to the Department of Telecommunications' commitment to empowering mobile subscribers and promoting a safer and more secure environment for all users. By providing these citizen-centric services and fostering awareness, the portal enhances the overall mobile experience while ensuring individuals have greater control over their connections and personal security.
