CMET's R&D activities at present include development of thick film materials, polymers for electronics, specialty chemicals and glasses, ultra high purity and refractory metals, semiconductors, electronic ceramics and fine powder processing. C-MET undertakes joint R&D, sponsored research, technology transfer and consultancy projects and provides technical services.

Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE) Scheme was put in place by MeitY in 2008 to promote innovation by nurturing startups in Information Technology, Communications (ICT) domain. Under the TIDE Scheme, financial assistance is provided to Institutions of Higher Learning to strengthen their Technology Incubation Centres for enabling young entrepreneurs to create technology startup companies for commercial exploitation of technologies developed by them. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has launched a scheme, Support for International Patent Protection in E&IT to provide financial support to MSMEs and Technology Startup units for international patent filing to encourage innovation and recognize the value and capabilities of global IP along with capturing growth opportunities in ICTE sector. In addition, to sensitize and create IP awareness and to disseminate the scheme among stakeholders, a scheme to support IPR awareness is also proposed as the second component of the scheme.

This institute has been earmarked for conduction of need based courses of Regional Ordnance Factories and Core Competency Courses of all Ordnance Factories including headquarters and allied units. During the current financial year 83 courses are being planned, with many new courses, having revised and updated contents to fulfil the functional requirement.
