The Mission envisages empowering our national academic and R&D institutions spread over the country by installing a vast supercomputing grid comprising of more than 70 high-performance computing facilities. Training and capacity building to increase efficiency and talent forms the fundamental principle in the development of an institution. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has been training all its newly recruited geologists through orientation courses by imparting field training at many of its field centers distributed across the country covering the mighty Himalaya, picturesque Deccan Plateau, and western, southern and northeastern India.

Geological survey of India is one of the pioneer organizations involved in exploring the oceans around India. Marine and Coastal Survey Division [M & CSD] of GSI [erstwhile Marine Wing (MW) / Offshore Mineral Exploration & Marine Geology (OME & MG)] has started coastal and marine surveys in a miniscule manner way back in early nineteen seventies by survey and mapping of selected parts of coastal waters using country boats and other small fishing crafts.

The Indian museum, located at 27, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Park Street area. Kolkata, West Bengal-700016, popularly known as ‘Jadughar’ is the ninth oldest museum across the world. It is the largest museum across India and boasts exquisite collections of ancient sculpture, antiques, ornaments, paintings, fossils and other cultural and natural specimens. The museum was established by the Asiatic Society of Bengal in 1814. Designed by Walter B Granville, the museum has two wings converging on a portico supported by Corinthian columns.

The Siwalik Fossil Park, inaugurated on 23rd March 1974, is a rare gift of nature and a rich geological heritage. The Park displays six life size, fibre glass models of prehistoric animals which thrived in the area 1- 2.5 million years ago. The fossilized remains of these animals have been recovered from the rocks around Saketi and neighbouring areas.
