The National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) Jodhpur is upgraded from MITI in March 2014 with the objective of producing trained Craft Instructors needed to meet the huge demand of Instructors in various industrial training institutions (ITI's), other establishments & training institutions existing in the country.

The National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) Ludhiana An ISO 29990:2010 Certified Institute, formerly called Advanced Training Institute (ATI) and Central Training Institute for Instructor (CTI) was established by Government of India, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Directorate General of Employment and Training in 1963 primarily with the objective for the training of Crafts Instructors in different Engineering trades for Industrial Training Institute (ITI’s), Industrial establishment and also for developing skilled manpower for the Industries.

The institute was started as Model Industrial Training Institute (MITI) in 1982 at Choudwar, Cuttack in the premises of Institute of Textile Technology, a Govt of Odisha Institute. Initially it was started with some basic courses of two year duration viz. Basic Electricity, Basic Welding, Basic Sheet Metal, Basic Fitting, Basic Turning, Basic Milling, Basic Grinding, Basic Sloting and shaping; and two Specialisation module of 6 month duration each of Module Fitting General and Module Metrology & Engineering Inspection.

Under the scheme, training in selected skill areas is being imparted through short-term modular courses of one to six weeks' duration. Tailor-made courses suiting to the specific requirements of industrial establishments are also offered. Over 3.5 lakh industrial workers / technicians have made use of the training facilities at the NSTIs (erstwhile ATIs) since Sept, 2007. With financial assistance from World Bank, training facilities in additional areas were created at ATIs and the existing training facilities were also strengthened.
