The department deals with the service matters pertaining to the departments under its administrative control. The Department also works for bringing about improvement in the overall scenario by taking timely and pre-emptive measures for maintaining public order across the UT of Ladakh.

The General Administration Department, Ladakh by virtue of its duties is the nerve center of the administration. It came into existence after the bifurcation of erstwhile state of J&K into UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and UT Ladakh on 31st October, 2019. Excise Department being a major revenue-earning department apart from fulfilling its primary responsibility of revenue collection, the department controls and regulates the liquor intoxicants and discharges the responsibility of making available the same in safe quality to the consumers.

The Employment Exchanges in UT Ladakh had been catering to the recruitment needs of various Organizations. But after the Supreme Court Judgement passed in 1996, the notifying departments were given the discretion to invite the applications at their own level in addition to the names being sponsored by the Employment Department.

The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department entrusted with the responsibility of implementing one of the prime social sector programme of providing "Food Security" to one and all in general and to the vulnerable sections of the Society in particular by way of providing foodgrains like Rice and Atta and other essential commodities like Sugar, K-oil and Petroleum Products besides, protecting the consumer rights.
